Yoko Takemura owns and operates Assawaga Farm in Putnam, Connecticut, with her partner, Alex Carpenter. Assawaga Farm is in its ninth season selling certified-organic vegetables and cut flowers intensively on less than one acre. The farm is on Nipmuc land and is bordered by the Five Mile River, formerly called the Assawaga River. Yoko and Alex promote a healthy and diverse population of organisms above and below ground through regenerative practices including no-till growing, multi-species cover crops, on-farm static aerated pile composting, compost-tea brewing, and perennial hedgerow installations.
